Camp Visitors at Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda, Africa

It was New Years Eve and we knew we’d have to share our camp ground with others.

foot

Our company was not what you might have expected. Any guesses as to what animal this could be?

We were staying at Lake Mburo National Park in Uganda, Africa.

Camp was set up right by the water’s edge.

All around us was –

chris w hogs

Wart hogs.

hog face

Wart hogs get their name from the four wart like features on their face.

hog on knees

They kneel down like this to graze.

deer run

Moving through camp were also bush bucks.

deer body

I love their white spots –

deer legs

– and tiny feet.

zebra bar good

A few of us opted to leave the others behind at this zebra bar and go for a boat cruise.

baby croc

We saw young crocodiles.

eagle

Over ten fish eagles.

blurry m open

And hippos moving about in the fading evening light.

baby hip m open

I can’t wait to get the Go Pro videos uploaded and going. This baby hippo was playing around and we got to see him jump up out of the water.

hog walking

Camping in the bush while hearing animals crunching outside your tent can be an exciting experience. I almost wish I heard that happening more often. With such full days and so much to do, when I got in my tent I was usually sound asleep in less than ten minutes. If you do get a chance to go to Africa and hear this for yourself, keep calm and sleep on. If they’re chomping on grass, they most likely won’t be chomping on you!

  • Those warthogs are a very unusual animal! It would take me a while to get use to wild African animals encroaching on my campsite. Nice post.

Oh it didn’t take us long at all! Made for some great close up shots. It’s only when people forget that these are still wild animals, that’s when the trouble starts. Otherwise, we enjoyed at a distance and it was awesome!

Those warthogs look a lot like uncle Jim from the 70’s. I have proof in old photo albums…. Great shots!!!

What? Hey, I’ve never even seen those photo albums! Well, it was pretty neat to see wart hogs up so close. Thanks!

Great information and pictures the wart hog looks as if he is wearing stilettos! For being such a homely animal they actually look quite graceful.

Haha, a wart hog in heels. They are regarded as one of the ‘stupidest’ animals by African standards, but they are so funny and personable to watch! I did love looking at their little toes. Glad you enjoyed. 🙂

  • “But I always think that the best way to know God is to love many things.” Vincent van Gogh ……And I think wart hogs make a great cartoon character. I love the attention to detail of pic of their legs! “Many things to love” in this post!

Haha, they would make a great cartoon character. They each have such funny personalizes as they make their crunching noises as they kneel, making their way across the grass. Nice bringing in a quote by Van Gogh! 😉

Tiff- I am impressed you wore heals in Africa, but really, those legs really should have been shaved before you went out! =)

  • Nice Blog, I love traveling things like cruises, city tours, visiting new places it the greatest but safaris are just majestic, Rather it’s the Savana Safari in Africa, Jungle safari in Asia or an Evening Desert Safari Dubai they are just lovely.
