Enjoying Beautiful Seyon Lodge in Groton Vermont

Complimenting last weeks post highlighting the amazing team we have to run Seyon Lodge, this week we got to enjoy the park through the eyes of our guests. The above quotes are a small representation of what people share with us in regards to their impressions of the lodge. Chris’s sister and husband, Michele and Matt and their three kids happened to be able to visit on the one day we had off.

The ‘Inn Keeper is Off’ sign went up on the door and we went out to enjoy our own park. Here’s a look at what we saw:

Michele started the day off with yoga by the pond.

I think all these photos are so amazing I was not able to have any restraint and I put them all in.

Here it looks like she was mimicking the landscape.

I love, love, love this photo. I just can’t stop starring at how powerful an image this is to me.

With all the crazy weather this summer we lucked out with a mostly blue sunny day.

Chris looks abnormally huge in this picture.

Michele modeled how cool you can look wearing a life jacket to her kids.

I’m not sure if it helped her kids look any saner.

Nope. Still got the crazy look to them.

We rowed all around the pond and Natalya pointed at all the mountains she liked and didn’t like.

Natalya also took some pretty cool photos on the water.

Our resident loons came to see us.

Unfortunately I did not have my big lens to get better shots.

After lunch we went for a hike around the pond.

The kids went crazy eating wild blue berries from the forest.

So yummy.

Here’s Aidian with wild blueberries. At dinner that evening we tallied up that from the ground that day we ate freshly picked and ate wild blue berries, wild raspberries, peas, nasturtiums, arugula, chives, mint, carrots, lettuce and kale. Not a bad day of eating local.

Everyone kept finding little treasures and wonders like these Indian Ghost Pipes…

…lush green plants…

…bright yellow mushrooms…

…mushrooms on trees…

…and stumps. We couldn’t walk more than twenty feet without Natalya wanted to take a picture of a stump. It took us hours to walk 1.5 miles around the pond.

This happened to be a particularly pretty rock which she couldn’t pass up.

Chris pretended to be Tom Sawyer.

I see guests sitting on this bridge all the time and I was so excited to have the chance to hang out on here for a while.

Michele got a bug in her eye, so everyone closed one eye for the photo so she wouldn’t be the only one.

Not that you can see the beaver in this photo, but as we were sitting there we got to watch a beaver swimming around at the end of this stream.

We marveled at all the flowers and insects.

And kept saying ‘pretty’ to most everything that was found.

Ok, this wasn’t our table spread at Seyon Lodge, but we got the candles out and made a pretty dinner spread just like this for ourselves. Sometimes it’s nice to fuss over yourself.

Quietly our day together came to a slow end.

To me running this Inn parallels running my own life – if I don’t create the moments to enjoy this beautiful place I live in, the whole experience will be done and over with before I know it.

Michele and Matt drove ten hours to come and see us with three kids in the car. I’m so thankful they were able to come so together we could enjoy this magical park at Seyon Lodge.

This park after all, is worth experiencing.

Always wonderful to have special visitors, extra nice when it’s family and friends. Educational AND fun at the Park… really nice Bunny Ears on Ranger Chris (good goin’ Cartsen)

  It was great to have visitors and especially to just have the chance to enjoy our own park. It’s something rangers often voice the importance of. We can get so caught up in working so hard to ensure everything is pretty for our guests, we often neglect to let ourselves enjoy a sunset once in a while. It was all the better to be able to enjoy everything with family.
