Five Reasons to Visit Seattle

Seattle is a city that is always held in high regard. It is known for being a peaceful city where its residents enjoy all of the amazing seafood served straight from the ocean, not to mention the great tasting coffee. Many think immediately of the iconic Space Needle building, or famous movies and TV shows set in the Emerald City such as Sleepless in Seattle or Frasier.

But there is so much more to Seattle, which is a city with so many interesting and fun facts. Check a few of them out!

Seattle has a reputation of being a city with perpetual rainfall. While there is some truth to this, it is surprisingly dry when compared to some cities. Both Chicago and New York are amongst the cities with more annual rainfall, as Seattle does not even sit amongst the ten wettest!

It’s worth noting that Seattle does tend to see more days in the year with rain though, which could allude to its famous reputation with precipitation. At least it’s not heavy rain for all these days!

It is a Very Musical City

Seattle is very much one of Americas great music cities. The grunge movement of the 90s is one of the most notable scenes to emerge from the city, but its relationship with good music has gone back much further – Jimi Hendrix is one notable example!

It was in Seattle where the first 24/7 radio station began, and many famous artists got their first taste of US airplay on Seattle radio stations including hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash. Many famous bands have originated from Seattle, including Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie, Macklemore and Soundgarden.

If you are a music fan, Seattle’s schedule of concerts and other such events will certainly not disappoint you.

Seattle holds the proud record of being the most literate city in the country. With this information, the fact they also have the most bookstores per capita and the most library-cards issued should come as little surprise.

Famous martial artist Bruce Lee called Seattle home for many years, and is even laid to rest in Lakeview cemetery next to his deceased son Brandon. His parents shipped him over at the age of 18 to live with his sister in San Francisco, but Lee opted to relocate to Seattle. He would complete his education at what is now the Seattle Central Community College before going to study at the University of Washington.

Seattle’s beloved football team are the Seattle Seahawks. Their fans have an on-going rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs fans, but not for the reasons you may think. The two sets of supporters have had a back and forth in recent years battling out for the world record of the loudest roar at a sports stadium. In December 2013, Seahawks fans broke the record, hitting a might roar of 137.6 dbA at the Century Link Stadium.

The noise generated from such an attempt managed to create a minor earthquake, with the vibrations caused measuring in a one to two magnitudes! The Chiefs fans have since reclaimed to record for their own, so next time the Seahawks are responding with their effort, make sure to hold on!

Looking for more reasons to book your next holiday and make Seattle your destination? One thing is sure: there will be no dull moment. Seattle offers plenty of opportunities for fun, no matter the season.
