Ghosts, Books and Bread

Oh boy…lots of stuff is happening. Vermont is *just beautiful* right now. I went running down our dirt road thankful for each crunch of gravel I heard beneath my feet. I looked up at the umbrella of green leaves hanging over the road providing me shade. I got into the rhythmic crunching as sweat started dripping down my forehead. This is what life is about and I am so thankful to be living it.

This week a hodgepodge of activity is happening.

You can see a new post about Humberstone – Ghost Town in the Chilean Desert on the We Said Go Travel site. I’ve talked about Humberstone before and it’s worth mentioning again. Plus, there are some different photos in this guest post to check out. 🙂

Also, look forward to another interview coming soon from the Professional Hobo. Nora’s just released her latest book, Tales of Trains: Where the Journey is the Destination and it’s an awesome read. I read a little of it every night before bed and was sad when the book ended. Reading it made me want to drop everything and start riding trains. It is on sale now for $7 bucks! How can you beat that!?

A lot of my tips from last weeks post How to Manage Your Money Abroad were featured at Credit Card Insider, a site designed to help college students make sound money decisions when preparing to study abroad.

And among all this writing, photography (our newest coffee table book with photos of Peru is just about complete – yahoo!), we keep trucking away taking care of our guest here at the lodge.

So life is full of wonderful things, happenings and we are planning as always. Hope all is going groovy in whatever part of the world you may be in and please enjoy this weeks post, Humberstone – Ghost Town in the Chilean Desert.

  • Whoa! You’ve had a lot going on lately! Great Humberstone post.

    • Thanks. Humberstone is still one of the coolest things we’ve done. And oh boy, yes there is a lot going on. 🙂

I was wondering if they upkeep Humberstone? Like if buildings are falling down or a roof collapses is the building off limits to the public now or do you enter at your own risk? Seems the buildings would get in worse shape each year so wondering if the tour will shrink with each season… That’s it. Keep it up Amazon Queen.

    • There were some buildings that were off limits to the public by force, ie, locked or blocked off, and there were other areas where if you dared go up some stairs to the second floor of a building, it was on you. The buildings do get worse over the years, hence UNESCO site in danger. I don’t know the precise acreage, but the town is big. There are plenty of buildings that should remain standing for a long time. And one of the best parts of Humberstone, there is no official tour. You pay the entrance fee and then you can respectfully go where you please. You ever want to lose yourself in a ghost town, this is it!

  • mmmmm bread… that looks so good!

  • I seriously love your site.. Great colors & theme.
Did you build this web site yourself? Please reply back as I’m hoping to create my
own website and would love to know where you got this from
or what the theme is called. Cheers!

    • Glad you enjoy the site. I switched from blogger to word press and bought a theme from studio press. I did get stuck trying to get some of the layout the way I wanted it, so if you find yourself spending hours upon hours and things are not lining up the way you want, it may be good to just hire someone to help you get things tweaked the way you want. Thanks for looking!
