Heading to South America

Bundled in our winter jackets Chris and I walked across the pavement carrying our new home. Every spring and fall signify transitions in the park world and recently the white stuff, aka snow, has signified it’s time for Chris and I to head south. I open the car door and Chris puts in three large plastic totes that will become our home.

“They cost $40,” he said walking out alluding to the high cost of the plastic bins.
“Dang, that’s a good price for a house,” I replied.

We are packing up our Inn-Keeping life and putting it in big, blue, plastic totes in the basement. We plan to return to Seyon Lodge in the spring and we are passing the torch to Team Winter.

On the horizons for us: South America.

There are so many places in the world we have yet to visit and narrowing down which continent was a hard enough task.

Africa and South America were the two continents that were in the highest running to go to. After many hours of research, talks and debates we finally settled on South America. But South America is big. There’s a lot to see and this only helped us narrow down our next plot of land to explore to approximately 6,880,00 square miles or 17,821,000 square kilometers. So we did more research and to narrow down what seemed like a feasible plan for a four month trip.

We came up with a plan to traverse, more or less, a half circle of the lower half of the country. We booked tickets into Lima, Peru and four months later departing Buenos Aires, Argentina. We will see how long it takes us to get from point A to B and what we can explore in between.

In certain regards, this will be a completely different style of trip, mostly the fact we have a return ticket. Our last trip we took off to live in another country out of a van down by the river for an indefinite amount of time. Each trip and every continent will have a different flare and travel style to it. And that’s the beauty of travel.

We are excited for South America and open to what the countries will show us. Please book mark your browsers and prepare to follow along on the next journey…South America soon awaits.
