Round Up from the Web

I have to tell you, similar to when Sheet Mountain happened, life has been a little crazy lately and I have not been able to achieve the goals I hoped for myself. Within the past week or so we had a full on search and rescue operation in our park for two of our guests that got disoriented and lost in the woods. They were found and everything turned out ok, but boy did that take up a lot of time I had planned to use for other things. We’ve had our furnace break just before the weekend with a full lodge coming in with lots of young babies and had to scramble around to get that back up and running. We had, (for the first time ever) our dessert fall out of the fridge and smash on the floor and have to deal with that.

The list only goes on and the point is: I am committed to putting forth my best and I simply am not where I had hoped to be with my writing this week.

So this week I offer you a round up from the web of some of my favorite travel and inspiration posts I read. Here we go:

 Elizabeth Gilbert

Here is Elizabeth Gilbert’s, author of Eat, Pray, Love, answer to her question of the day:

How to Deal with Criticism

The past winter we were so fortunate to hike and have an experience with silver back mountain Gorillas in Rwanda. Silver back mountain gorillas only live in the high jungles of Rwanda, Uganda and Congo. The experience felt like a once in a life time encounter. Here is a link to Koko, a lowland gorilla and her reaction to receiving some kittens. I kept rewinding this video over and over again to watch her hands. I love observing the hands of people and I was just captivated by her giant hands grasping that tiny kitten.

And lastly, one of my favorite fellow travel bloggers, Nomadic Matt, here is an awesome article talking about travel:

What Makes a Nomad a Nomad

And also, don’t forget, I post regularly on facebook, twitter, instagram, google+, (and sorta on pinterest, that is on my to do list to figure out pinterest better.) So you can go there for pretty pictures to brighten up your day, because who doesn’t love pretty pictures!

Ok, have a great week everyone and see you on facebook! 😉

Thanks. Things are winding down for the fall. I love reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s work. There are plenty of inspiring words to find out there. 🙂

  • What a interesting post. I am not familiar with Elizabeth Gilbert per say, but I watched the movie “Eat, Pray, Love” and did not care for it. So I found it helpful to read her comments on criticism. I would like to read the book. Quite often they are more “insightful” than the movie which has to appeal to a variety of people and is geared to “sell it” to audiences. It takes “grace under fire” to remain true to yourself in the public domain and that is what I find Elizabeth Gilbert able to do. Nice going

I thought the book was much better. But I have been more inspired by watching her TED talks and reading some of her other work. Either way, I find a lot of motivation from her writings. Glad you founds bits to enjoy as well.
