Ugandan Signs in Africa

I was always so mad after falling asleep in the vehicle at any point in our trip as we drove hundreds of kilometers across Africa. The scenery, changing landscapes and people would alter by the kilometer. But where I found I needed to have my camera ready at all times was for the signs. I loved seeing all the different signs and over the course of three months took hundreds of photos.

When looking through these hundreds of photos I was trying to think of different ways to showcase these signs and the humor I saw in them other than to just simply list them. So instead, here is one interpretation of a mini love story told through the signs.

 nice and lovely

To start off with, a couple met each other and thought they were each nice and lovely.

butto

I mean, when you have Butto to enjoy the perfect meal every time, of course life is nice and lovely.

hows love life

The Ugandan government asked them, ‘How your love life is?’

ladies and one man mani

If you were this one male maniqcan with all these ladies, probably pretty good.

basic food

They got some basic food here, making sure to clarify it was not for animals.

aqua sipi

To quench their thirst for the road ahead, they grabbed some aqui sipi –

low gear

And went for a drive, ensuring they engaged in low gear and took it slow.

crazy cock

Despite what the advertisements told them, they didn’t want to start out too fast with the crazy cock alcohol, and stuck with the aqui sipi.

furn and sani ware

Life continued to go well together and they got their furniture and sanitary ware here –

com foam

– and a mattress at com foam there.

pork joint

To round off their days together, dinner was grabbed off a hook at this pork joint.

good african coffee

Because at the end of the day, everyone wants to shoprite and have good African coffee.

I loved looking at all the different signs around Africa. They did tell such an interesting story about the landscapes, its people and I just love happy endings.  🙂

Thanks Jeb! Well, I am at least certain we got more sun than you would have at quilt camp. 😉 The Africa trip is amazing and so glad we got to experience all the wonderful things we have. We have also seen some beautiful quilts made in Africa. 🙂

  • From the “concrete jungle” of America, to the dusty plains of Africa these signs speak of mans most basic longings “eat, drink, and be merry” But what a contrast!!
    U 2 R amazing!

Thanks! Even just the little bits of background one can see in these photos, it shows some of the differences between those parts of Africa and America. No matter anything else, people everywhere do strive to eat drink and be merry. 🙂

Oh man, thanks so much Deb!!! We are pleased you enjoy the posts. You know, we will have much more to say and present about the stereotypical hesitations I think most people (us included) had about coming to Africa, but after having spent so much time here, what a continent. What a continent. I could go on a long while in this comment, but the bottom line is, coming here reminded us we are all more similar than different.
And I hope that hippo poo factoid wins you a big trivia match some day!!! 😉
