Why You Want to Gaze at the Amazing Street Art in Amman, Jordan
Recently I found myself wandering around to gaze at the amazing street art in Amman, Jordan. Jordan was my second country to visit in the Middle East. I can say overall during my three weeks throughout the Middle East I was pleasantly surprised in almost every way. Walking these ancient streets, drinking tea out of tiny glasses without handles (seriously, this is a skill one needs to accomplish) and enjoying the beauty of so many intricate lamps were all fascinating. Yet Jordan had a few surprises up it’s sleeve: amazing street art in Amman!
First let’s place Jordan on a map.
Ok, now let’s wander around and find amazing street art in Amman!
Prior to walking around the city we had no idea we would stumble upon so much amazing street art in Amman.
There was no mention of so many numerous murals in any of the info we read.
A few travelers we talked to said they weren’t sure what else there was to see in Amman and they might get bored.
We didn’t really know exactly what to do either. But we wandered around and kept finding murals.
Like this! ๐
There were just so many murals that we thought were outstanding.
I loved the mix of portrait with modern in this juxtaposition.
I can only imagine there are still quite a few we didn’t find.
We had three days to wander around the city. As we walked around we’d just try taking different streets.
We’d go down a plain alleyway, round a corner and then this!
Some streets turned out to have nothing while others we’d round a corner and find this. Wow!
I just loved this mural!
Finding murals became like an impromptu mission.
Each day seemed to turn up more and more murals.
Some of the art were funny little expressions.
But they could still have a powerful message.
Can’t read this – but it looks funny! ๐
Just so many styles…
…and different splashes of color all throughout the city.
I just liked this one.
These steps were a popular hang out spot.
At night it was lit up and looked really cool too.
Yet another form of expression along someone’s house.
Just loved the close up patterns.
This mural was in a parking lot.
This one was outside a paint shop.
This was just walking down another street.
A different interpretation of Petra!
A big wall of beautiful flowers.

These last few coming up were some of my most favorites.
This is a close up…
I just loved how this mural was created along this large space of wall.
We almost missed this one and it was just so unexpected. I think all the unfinished rebar below in almost four pillars added to the composition.
And this was one of my favorites. It was huge and could be seen in many places around the city. It’s the eyes – I just love the eyes in this one.
So if you enjoy cities were you can easily amble around, don’t overlook the chance to admire funky street art in Amman Jordan. Jordan was a delight to travel around and was exceptionally welcoming. And if you are worried about how to fill your days in Amman, don’t worry – there is plenty to see.

If you go:
We stayed at Arab Tower Hotel. This was a great budget option and the location was really centrally located. Nice, friendly, good breakfast and decent price, what more could you want?
If you want a little bit of a splurge, we did also stay at the 4-star Retaj Hotel– for a night. It was definitely nice if you are keen to stay there.
Despite having a bunch airline points waiting for us to use them up, we found the best times and prices for this trip by searching with Sky Scanner.
If you will need a travel adapter I don’t know how we traveled all those years before getting a universal travel plug. This has been one of the most convenient travel items we carry with us now.
We were on part of this trip on our own and part of it with G Adventures and loved it. We have also traveled with Intrepid Travel. We think both of these companies do good work. I would confidently book with either and it could be a great way to ease yourself into Middle Eastern Travel.

Never would have thought that Jordan would have such beautiful street art.
Jordan was so artistic and pleasant. There seemed to us at least, a fairly good emphasis on the arts and creativity. We were wonderfully surprised! ๐
What a breath of fresh air reading this post. I could not get enough. When were they done? They look so new and none looked “faded” Different artists? It was hard for me to pick out a favorite. And hardly any people around, what is up with that? I look forward to your comments and thanks.

Well it was just a lot of different artists – which we did not meet any of them. I am not sure when they were done (some had dates on them of being done in the 90s) but Jordan’s climate allows for them to maintain their appearance pretty well. There was people around, but we just waited and tried to get a lot of these photos without the people in them! But Jordan could certainly use more visitors!!!
I love street art! Looks like you found some great murals! I particularly liked the picture with flowerpots.

Thanks Sandra! Yeah, Chris found the mural with the street art on our last day! That one seems to be a favorite! ๐
I’ve been waiting (im)patiently for this post! Those hummingbirds are everything! And the cow (or bull) is definitely my favourite as well. So much beautiful art! I love it when street art is colourful, it definitely lifts its surroundings. #FlyAwayFriday
Haha, thanks Katherine! Yeah, I really loved the bull/moose/deer as well! That was just outstanding I thought. The natural surrounds of Jordan seemed to make this street art pop even more! ๐
Wow! That is some spectacular street art I do love the colours and the flower ones are my favourite – no the hummingbirds, no the stairs. Impossible to pick your favourite they are all so full of sub text and meanings just remarkable.#flyawayfriday
I share your difficulty in picking a favorite as well Faith! I just loved them all too – in fact I spent a lot of time debating how many I could ‘get away with’ putting in this post. With so many outstanding murals, I felt bad to leave any out! Thanks! ๐
Wow! What beautiful street art. I think my favorites are the flower wall and the hummingbirds. Thank you for sharing. #flyawayfriday
I always love finding street art when I travel and these pieces are SO beautiful! I love your photos, too. I love the steps with the hanging flower pots, the blue and yellow fish, the hummingbird… all of them, really! I love that you said your trip turned into a mission to find more murals – I often feel the same way. It turns into a fun citywide scavenger hunt and finding a new piece can be so exciting. #flyawayfriday
