Adventure: Where will Tiff and Chris go next?
Ah! We are soon to embark on our Yet To Be Determined Next Adventure!
Where should Tiff and Chris go?! That is the question and we are seeking all input and opinions please. 🙂
For the first time in years we have the summer season off and we are finding ourselves overwhelmed trying to narrow down where we should go next.
World – we’re ready for our next adventure!
Some places we are keenly interested in seeing sooner than later:
- The Galapagos and Ecuador
- India – largely to try and see tigers in the jungle
- Thailand – scuba diving and have not yet been to this country
- Africa – the wildebeest migration
We have a few things to bear in mind:
- we want to travel primarily to see new wildlife
- we want to go to places that have the potential to be greatly altered by either increased tourism and/or development
- we want to (try) and go to areas/hemispheres that are potentially better visited in this summer season
You’re eyes and first hand experiences are usually better than any guide book.
Guide books are only so good, first hand experiences are usually better. We would love if any of you reading are willing to share your own experiences if you have been. If you are not much of an international traveler, which places you would most like to see pictures of?
For instance, when we went to Africa last winter, we were worried because the guidebooks said it could be raining on us. We went anyway and had fantastic weather. When we needed to fly out of Australia to renew our visa and miss the “hot” season, we went to Indonesia. Indonesia is huge and parts of the island country were in the rainy season, but Sumatra was not, so we went there to hike with orangutans. We had such an awesome time and got our scuba diving certification. So without having gone there first ourselves, it’s always tricky to tell.
We take all the guidebook recommendations with a grain of salt and one lesson that has been shown over and over to us when we travel: Always Ask Questions.
So now we are asking for your opinions and input:
- Have you been to the places above? What time of year? What did you do? What are your best tips?
- Are there some other really cool places that you have been and think we would enjoy?
- If you are not traveling abroad, but enjoy traveling vicariously with us via Vagabond Way (thank you so much!) where would you like to see Tiff and Chris go? What pictures do you want to see?
The world is such a big and amazing place – just like this giant chair at Farm Way in Bradford, VT. We feel so fortunate to be picking out our next destinations to have an adventure. Thank you for sharing any of your own personal insights and coming along on this journey with us! If you know anyone else who might like to share their insight, please pass the word. Thank you so much!
All the Best, Tiff and Chris
Heading out again? I suggest you go to Haskinsville, NY. There are wild turkey, deer, the occasional bear and plenty of nature. If that’s not an option I say Galapagos! Animals from nowhere else from the reptiles to birds including Darwin’s finches. Hard decisions but I’m sure you’ll make a good one.
Well, don’t worry, there will be some Haskinsville, NY time planned in. The Galapagos keeps coming up a lot. One of our guests just told us they heard something about the baby tortoises being born, so we will be looking into that. Buying plane tickets is the big one!
Hi Tiff and Chris,
Thailand! I am heavily biased though 😉 LOVE the Land of Smiles. Visit Koh Lanta to see ample wildlife, from monkeys (different species), snakes like cobras, and 5-6 foot long water monitors which are all over the island. Really, much of Thailand is pretty dang remote but Koh Lanta is super undeveloped so you get to see nature up close and personal.
Been to Costa Rica? More wildlife there per capita than most spots. Last month, DEEP in the jungles of Buena Vista (Carribbean side) I saw: bullet ants, poison dart frogs, 2 and 3 toed sloths, Howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, Mealy Amazon parrots, snakes, thousands of army ants in the house, owls, hawks, oropendola, possum, other weird looking mammals, and like 5 other animals I couldn’t ID. Downside; we lived in a hut 3 hours away from another human being (save 2 neighbors, 30 minutes away LOL) in a place without electricity or plumbing. Which is exactly why we saw that many animals during only 6 weeks.
As for rainy season, Thailand is coming into it in a few months but it’s super tame. Rarely heavy rains for more than a day during monsoon season. Go on ahead; besides, you’ll see 5 times more animals in rainy season versus dry season.

Hey Ryan! Oh wow! Thanks so much, this was exactly the type of stuff I was hoping to hear. So far I think we are feeling more and more enthralled with going to Ecuador and The Galapagos, so that will be from June-ish until ?. Then we have just been itching to get over to Southeast Asia, the Thailand, Vietnam areas and also India. Your first hand experience will definitely help us figure out our route and seasons. I will be pouring through your pages on Thailand. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your perspective! 🙂
Hi, check “Untamed Patagonia” Geo Ex is launching trip to new park with a hike over mountains into Argentina and Fitz Roy range.
Wilderness paradise of Clayoquot in British Columbia, pristine, salmon runs, polar bear
migration and orca pods.
Ladakh, India, off grid and unconnected but a delight to tour on foot
And Haskinsville , Ny where travelers can “work for food” LOL
We heard about that. Oh my gosh, Patagonia was one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited. We have been thinking about areas that are more north and a bit more pleasant to visit in the summer. We have thought about a road trip at length and gone back and forth because currently we have a ford escort as our car – although we have thought that could make for a humorous road tripping car! Ah, so many options!
I can’t wait to figure out your next destination! I wonder where it will be!?
Haha, us too! 🙂
