Links, Books and How You can Help Keep us Traveling

This week I can say goodbye summer and hello fall all one sentence. The leaves are just starting to turn red and day light is fading. This week there are a lot of announcements to make, so let’s get the ball rolling.

This past week it was a pleasure to be included in Nora Dunn’s article 15 Airport Hacks from Professional Travelers. As my world continuously grows and we propel ourselves on-wards as professional travelers and bloggers, we are surrounded by a growing number of amazing writers. Nora is an awesome writer and if you haven’t checked out her site, The Professional Hobo, she has tons of resourceful content on there including her two books, How to Get Free Accommodation Around the World and Tales of Trains: Where the Journey is the Destination.

Hitch hiking in Argentina.

Seasoned traveler Chris knows that standing out in the hot sun hitchhiking in Argentina is a good way to get burnt and drain all your energy. Professional travelers know to carry an umbrella.

I am also very excited to announce that we are now also endorsing Nomadic Matt’s travel books. If you don’t know, Nomadic Matt is one of the top travel bloggers out there. The theme of his site is: Travel better, cheaper, longer. We love his site and the vibe it has. I’ve bought his book How to Travel the World on $50 a Day.

Professional blogging.

Working on the road isn’t all bad. When it’s time to update a post and do some writing it is also time for a treat!

Oh yeah, and did we mention we booked out trip to Africa! More details to come later. All we’ve really done is book our overland truck tour with Intrepid Travel and order sleeping bags. So we have a lot more to do. We will be flying into Nairobi and taking two months to travel across Africa ending in Cape Town. We will be doing a lot of camping and looking for animals. This will be a whole different style of travel for us and we are excited to try it out.

Bull shark in Fiji.

People ask us if we are afraid to go to Africa. I tell them I was afraid to go diving with a dozen bull sharks in Fiji. Taking the plunge to have so many massive sharks swimming around us was incredible and one the high lights of our diving career. (Note: this is a reef shark in this picture, we didn’t have our own diving camera when we were with the bull sharks, but we plan on getting a video camera before Africa!) We went for a total of four dives. Am I am afraid to go Africa? Not any more than I was before diving with bull sharks. For all I know, Africa may hold our next best animal experience, but we won’t know unless we take the chance and go.

So that’s what’s been going on with us. The season is in full swing and I am getting my money’s worth out of my coffee machine. Thank you as always for your support, interest and sharing of stories with us. There is so much in life everywhere to be thankful and excited for. When we share together, the excitement ripples only grow and grow. Thanks for being excited with us. Be sure to stay tuned for updates and pictures from the road in Africa!

Need a little more travel planning?

Much of the gear listed in this post is the same exact gear we used to have a comfortable and warm out there.
These same booking resources are the same exact ones we use to find deals and acquire points for more travel.
I will never recommend to get a credit card unless you are 100% solid to pay it off in full every month. If you will and are going to be making some big purchases, this Chase card is the same exact card we use and it offers great travel points and perks.
Finally, if you have not used AirBnB before, use this special link to sign up and get $40 off your first booking.

    • When one is living out of a back pack, it’s all about cutting weight. Yet every time we seem to go somewhere we end up getting umbrellas. They have been so great when it’s been a down pour and we have to get from point A to B to catch a bus. Will post carrot cake recipe in comments soon! 🙂
