I’m not a technical climber, huge dare devil or an extreme sports participant. What I am is a person who takes on challenges that push my boundaries and by which I will undoubtedly feel uncomfortable. In these moments of unease, growth happens, skills are formed and memories become engrained in my life. Such was the case when I chose to climb the Kari Trees. The full story of this weeks post is entered in a contest titled: Australia: The Climb.
That’s me at the start of a kari tree.
Located in the South West Australian forest, these are tall trees – taller than the Statue of Liberty, Niagara Falls or a twenty story building.
Make sure you go to
www.wesaidgotravel.com and read my entry…which will give better context to the photos. These photos are bonus photos because I could only fit three into the
story submission.
That’s Chris climbing up above me.
There he is.
Don’t look down.
But please do go to
see my entry and leave a comment if you would like.
I’m waiting for Chris to make his way down the tree.
And of course no post is complete without a picture of our beloved van.
Climbing up to the very top.
Looking out at the top of the forest canopy.
We got to watch the sun set as we quietly climbed our way back down the tree in the twilight.
Climbing the kari tree’s is one of the most unreal things I have done. Looking back at theses photos still seems so surreal and I ask myself, “Was I really up that high? Did I do that?”
I think it’s a fitting metaphor that life passes us by just as quickly as the climbing of these kari trees. In a short span of time I accomplished climbing all three trees and the experience became a part of my memory. I think of life in the same way, one day we will look back at some photos and ask ourselves, “Did I really do that? Is that what my life was like?” We only have so many days to fill and so many trees to climb before the sun will have it’s final setting for each of us. I hope we are all spending our days climbing the trees that are most important to us.
Climbing those trees is beyond my imagination! Thanks for listing such a wonderful and obscure experience…
Thanks. It is just the best idea to create a way to climb up the tree, instead of cutting down the trees to get to the top of the forest canopy.
Wow! You were way up there! I cannot imagine climbing up pieces of rebarb higher than the Empire State Building!
It was crazy. I just love that we had the choice to be able to do this. Thanks Australian Parks Service.
