The Great Vermont Corn Maze
On the dirt back roads of Vermont, Chris and I drove around looking for a giant patch of corn. We have always wanted to get lost in one and finally we had gotten our chance. With slightly over cast skies, the lower temperature was perfect conditions for hours of wandering around in a massive field of corn. Turning into a grassy parking area we had arrived at:
The Great Vermont Corn Maze
One of the Top 10 Corn Mazes in America, The Great Vermont Corn Maze is owned by the Patterson Farm. Married couple Dayna and Michael have run the maze for the past 17 years. They see about 5000 happy visitors per season get lost in their corn. Until this year, members of their family also operated a working dairy operation too. Unstable prices lead to the tough decision to sell off the milking cows (buy local and support your local farmers!) On their ~900 acre farm they still kept a few heifers and the maze itself encompasses about 16 acres. They estimate there is about three miles of trails, but most people probably walk six to find their way out.
The maze can take anywhere from one to six hours, so it’s important to be prepared. Water bottle man was a reminder that you might get thirsty walking for hours trying to your way out of giant stalks for corn.
So we started by choosing to go down ‘eeni, meenie, miney or moe.’ I thought that was pretty fun way to start.
Annixously we took off down the rows of corn.
We went left, right, straight, left, left…we weren’t going to let any mind games alter our path of this maze.
I kept making Chris stop for the first bit of time of being in the maze. “Oh wait Chris, this corn is so pretty.”
I continued, “I just love it! I want to get some artistic shots.”
Then the hours kept passing and we realized, “Ok, we are still in the middle of the corn and there is a closing time.”
There was even a boat in the midst of all this corn.
We can now say we rang the ‘World’s only Corn Cruiser Boat Bell.’
With time ticking we continued on our way. This photo above, that’s a piece of fallen baby corn. Hey, when you are wandering around for hours you start to take note of every little thing to know if you walked past it before or not. (Confession: we walked back and forth by the baby corn a lot.)
We debated going through the tunnel or not. We did and in case you still go, we’re not telling if you were supposed to or not!
All through the maze were different punch stations for the maze card you get upon entering. Then at the end you can go and look at a board and trace the route you wandered according to the different punches you found.
Just when we were fearing we might not make it out on the corn maze on our own, we found the bell of success!
And we did it! Except I think it looks like Chris did something else. 😉
Upon exiting the maze I got to go crazy in a space ship!
It was awesome and I don’t know why I loved this space ship so much.
Chris hung out in a dentist chair.
The farm had all these kids play house set ups and farm putt putt golf. It was quite a lot of fun to play around in. The photo above was of the underground gopher tunnels! How cool is that?! We clamored around in them and then questioned our decision about half way through the tunnels as we started feeling too big anymore to be gophers.
But most of all, after all the work to complete the maze, the biggest prize was being able to pet the baby goats!
These goats seemed to love hanging out on Goat Bridge. Then when people came around to pet them, they would come running down.
I mean, how can one not enjoy goats!?
To us, you can’t go wrong (no pun intended!) to go to the Great Vermont Corn Maze. It’s one of the best in the country, it’s run by a family business, it’s a great way to get some exercise…and you can pet goats.
Go to the Great Vermont Corn Maze. You will not be disappointed, but you may get turned around.

a-MAZE-ing post (all puns intended). Fall fun at it’s corniest. To be one of the top 10 in the country is very impressive. Sounds like they lived up to their reputation.
They did! It was a lot of fun and we have wanted forever to go to a good corn maze! It was great to meet Mike and Danya. We would certainly go again!
This post was so much fun, each picture was funnier than the one before it!
Thanks, it’s too bad I exhibited so much control over not putting up every space ship photo. They were so much fun to take. The corn maze was awesome and so glad we got to go!
Say, you did not happen to see any base ball players in the corn maze by chance. LOL
Reminded me of the movie “Field of Dreams”. Well, “if you build it they will come” certainly works for the Patterson family and I so enjoyed the post. Good job!

Haha, no base ball players. Yeah, there is so much work that goes into that corn maze. WOW! I can see why they are in the top 10 of the USA. And coming up with the design and theme each year. Man oh man. This was a lot of fun!
Nice photos of you in the bubble. Such a photogetic person. Cool corn maze. Bet that was a lot of fun to walk through.
It was. You would have loved the spaceship and the goats!!! The goats were so cute and just loved to be pet.
